| The Experienced Parent Project coordinators are available to talk with families about issues that develop with a child with a disability or developmental delay.
Moe Schroeder
Moe Schroeder is married and the mother of two children. Her son was born with several
forms of heart disease. Moe is the Regional Experienced Parent Coordinator, a member of the Early Childhood Interagency Board, (ECIC),a parent representative on the North Dakota Children Special Services Board, a board member of Family Voices of North Dakota, a Sanford Medical Home Team Parent Partner, member of the Sanford NICU Family Advisory Board, a March of Dimes Parent to Parent Volunteer, and a member of
Essentia NICU Family Advisory Board.
Jacky Mergner
Jacky is the parent of a preemie who was born at 24 weeks and weighed under 1 pound.
She has extensive experience with the NICU and the medical complications of having a premature child.
She also connects with parents who have experienced the grief of losing a child due to prematurity
or other medical complications. Jacky is a member of the Sanford NICU Family Advisory Board, a March
of Dimes Parent to Parent Volunteer, and a member of Essentia NICU Advisory Baord.
Moe and Jacky are available to talk with families about issues that come about with a child with a disability or developmental delay. Both have been invovled as parents in the early intervention program. They facilitate a monthly parents meeting and are available to talk with you (and listen) about issues such as: how to talk with other family memebers; friends or service providers; coping skills; siblings; frustrations; or any other issues you may like to discuss.
The montly parent group meets the 4th Tuesday of the month from 7pm to 9pm, September through May. Conversation topics and speakers include transitioning to school, therapies, available, sibling issues, dietary issues, discipline and much more. Some months family activities may take place such as pizza parties or swimming events. Starting in May, the Experienced Parent Project will be partnering with March of Dimes to start "Beyond the NICU doors" for parents that have post NICU children up to age two. Beyond the NICU doors will be held the 2nd Tuesday of every month from 7pm to 8:30pm. Locations for both meetings vary. Call for detailed information if interested.
